The King Faisal Foundation has recognized Donald Trunkey, MD, and Basil Pruitt, MD for their accomplishments in trauma. Dr. Trunkey wrote a paper in the late 60’s showing the preventable deaths in LA County and suggested that trauma centers be developed. These trauma centers would be dedicated to taking care of the trauma patient. Over the last 20 years, trauma centers have been shown to reduce mortality and morbidity in trauma patients.
