Sunday Morning Talk Shows – Fail
The Sunday morning talk shows did serve a purpose many decades ago. They informed the public about what was going on in DC. In the ’60s and ’70s, these Sunday talk shows revealed what was going on in Washington. Back then, politicians rarely spoke to the media. We could only get small snapshots of our elected officials in the morning papers. That was decades ago. Now is different. With 24-hour news channels and CSPAN, we can find out about important legislation as it is being debated. With blogs and the internet, we are plugged in more than ever. As a matter of fact, we can sign up for notifications from our favorite senator/congressman so that every time he/she sneezes we can be texted, tweeted or e-mailed. We can even follow specific pieces of legislation with daily updates.
The Sunday morning talk shows serve no purpose any more. Now that every politician has learned NOT to directly answer a question, these talk shows are nothing more than staged press conferences. Since these shows fail to inform and now serve to pass on misinformation, they are actually hurting our Republic/Democracy. They should all be canceled.
