Bush – Vetoes Stem Cell Research, again

Over a year ago, I wrote a piece which I posted here and on the Daily Kos. It was called Lost in Stem Cell, Hell. Well, a year has passed and we still haven’t gotten Stem Cell legislation turned into law. President Bush again, vetoed Stem Cell legislation. Neither the House nor the Senate have the vetoes to override this veto. Back to the drawing board.

President Bush yesterday vetoed legislation to expand federally funded embryonic stem cell research, saying that scientific advances now allow researchers to pursue the potentially lifesaving work without destroying human embryos.

Bush followed his veto — his third since becoming president — with an executive order aimed at encouraging federal agencies to support research that offers the promise of creating medically useful stem cells without destroying human embryos. (more…)
