SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT:  DOUG JONES ANSWERS FALSE, NEGATIVE ATTACK ADS

Doug Jones, candidate for NC House District 116 (Buncombe County), set the record straight today after a recent campaign of false, misleading and negative radio and television ads approved and paid for by his opponent. Jones addressed the following false accusations his opponent has used:
Thomas ad: “Doug Jones is a professional politician.” FALSEI
THE TRUTH: “I am a full-time public school teacher, and a professional educator. I teach US History to 11th grade students at Enka High School. This deliberate deception is an insult to my profession, to my fellow teachers, and to the community that I serve. I would like my opponent to apologize.”
Thomas ad: “Doug Jones will raise the tax on food.” FALSEI
THE TRUTH: “I have offered three specific tax cut proposals (gas tax reduction, car tax elimination, and property tax reform) and have campaigned on each for several months. I made tax relief for working families a cornerstone of my campaign, and have never proposed or supported any increase in the sales tax on food. This is simply a lie.”
Doug Jones closed by encouraging Buncombe County voters to join him in rejecting the politics of mischaracterization, false attack and slander that are being used against him this fall.
“Let’s speak with our vote this year. Let’s show candidates like my opponent, who engage in false attacks, that voters will not tolerate mudslinging.”
