Gun Deaths since Sandy Hook

gun2

I have mentioned several times that Slate is keeping a running total of gun deaths since Sandy Hook, including the Sandy Hook deaths on 12/14/2013. These deaths do not include suicides. There have been 1774 deaths secondary to gun violence.

Here’s a recent story from the Denver Post:

Denver police officers were called to the home in the 4900 block of Pearl Street at 6:55 a.m. for reports of a shooting. Officials did not identify the people whom officers found dead inside, but relatives said they were Perez, 22; her daughter, Nevaeh Morales, 6; and son, Erick Perez, 2.

A third child, Isabel Perez, 3, underwent surgery at Denver Health Medical Center, where police Cmdr. Ronald Saunier said she was in “extremely critical condition.”

Finally, I really don’t have any comments on the Christopher Dorner story. It seems to be really crazy from start to finish.

President Obama in Aurora

Yesterday, President Obama met with the families of the Aurora shooting.

From the Denver Post:

President Barack Obama spent more than two private hours with injured victims and families at University of Colorado Hospital on Sunday evening before saying in a televised address that it will be the “good people” and the heroic acts that will be remembered in the theater shootings — not the alleged gunman.

He quoted a passage from the Bible’s book of Revelation that says, in part, that God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more.”

“In the end, after he has felt the full force of our justice system, what will be remembered are the good people who were impacted by this tragedy,” Obama said.
