I really don’t like tunes that are in five. It just feels weird. I like things that are in four. That’s so much smoother. In this tune, though, it really doesn’t feel strange. It feels right. It swings. Nothing swings in five expect Take Five. I can’t remember the first time that I heard Take Five. I can remember the first time I really noticed Take Five. I was in college and I was listening to Al Jarreau sing it. It was wonderful. Soon I had to hear the original.
Dave Brubeck died this week, one day shy of his 92nd birthday. (more…)
