I understand that the wheels of justice can sometimes move slowly. I’m happy to wait patiently as long as the wheels of justice are still moving.
From Miami Herald:
The investigation into the killing of Miami teen Trayvon Martin ended without criminal charges Monday, even as outraged members of the community heckled the Central Florida police chief and demanded justice.
The Michael Krop Senior High School junior was killed two weeks ago in Sanford while on a trip to visit relatives. The 17-year old, who was black, went out unarmed to buy snacks at a 7-11 and wound up killed by a white neighborhood watch captain who had called police to report a suspicious person.
Saying he did not have enough evidence to make an arrest, Police Chief Bill Lee said the case will be handed over to the Seminole-Brevard State Attorney’s Office for review. Locals demanded to know why watch captain George Zimmerman has not been charged.
“In this case Mr. Zimmerman has made the statement of self-defense,” Lee said. “Until we can establish probable cause to dispute that, we don’t have the grounds to arrest him.”
The State Attorney’s Office did not return repeated requests for comment.
Lee, the city’s mayor Jeff Triplett and city manager Norton N. Bonaparte, Jr. made the announcement at a press conference outside City Hall, where African-American community members jeered the city leaders.
