I heard an interview with the Washington Post’s Thomas Ricks on the Al Franken show. He was outstanding. I think that progressives have had reports of incompetence but for the first time we really have a clear picture with this book, Fiasco and the outstanding book, Cobra II. Whether you are a progressive or a conservative, these two books clearly been delineated the problems that we’ve had in Iraq. The problems come not from execution of a brilliant plan but yet the incompetence and the capitulation of General Tommy Franks, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (although they don’t directly implicate him we all know that Vice President Dick Cheney was also in the loop and with his prior experience as secretary of defense he may have been in the best position to intervene) and of course President George W. Bush. Pro-counsel and Grandmaster Paul Bremmer also added to the unending flow of bad policies.
