Monday Morning News Roundup

Do you remember when conservatives were pushing the notion that the HPV vaccine would cause promiscuity? Sure, the idea was stupid. A vaccine that is designed to prevent cancer but somehow causes women to be more promiscuous is simply crazy. Well, a study validates the fact that the vaccine is not associated with increased promiscuity.

So, yesterday I pointed out that the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers were probably the second and third best teams in the NFL. Yesterday, both teams went out of their way to try to prove me wrong. They both lost. Neither team looked good in their loss. Hell, even the Atlanta Falcons, which I considered probably the best team in the NFL, struggled to get a victory. That tells you what I know.

Even Evil Knievel would be envious of this stunt. Wow. (8 million folks viewed it live on the internet.)

Obama has taken a lead, again, in national polls. Again, I would emphasize, the only poll that really counts is the one that takes place on a Tuesday in November.

Paul Ryan doesn’t even know his own plan’s defense numbers… or he is lying, again. “So we’re saying don’t cut the military by a trillion dollars,” Ryan said. “Not increase it by a trillion, don’t cut it by a trillion dollars.” Oops. This is wrong. They (Romney-Ryan) are increasing the military budget by $2 trillion over 10 years.

Once again, I would like to look at Mitt Romney‘s foreign-policy speech at VMI. Mitt Romney said, “finally, I will recommit America to the goal of a democratic, prosperous Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with the Jewish state of Israel.” That is very nice. I would like peace on earth and good will towards men and women. I would like dogs and cats to be able to live in peace and harmony. My question to Mitt Romney is how? How do you make this happen? How do you force democracy on the Palestinian state? As far as I know, there is no groundswell of democracy in Palestine. Instead, the Bush administration pushed this idea that elections equal Jeffersonian democracy and unfortunately that’s not what happened. Instead, the terrorist group Hamas won by a landslide. So, exactly how does Mitt Romney propose changing this? I don’t see how any steely-eyed, square-jawed type of diplomacy is going to fix the situation. This foreign-policy speech at VMI seems to be nothing more than a pipe dream.
