Senator Edward Kennedy to endorse Barack Obama.  What a huge weekend for Obama!!!  The win in South Carolina was big then back to back Kennedy endorsements.  As I mentioned earlier I still think that the Caroline Kennedy endorsement was big.  She really doesn’t speak out in presidential races at least that I know of.  Now, Senator Edward Kennedy who has been personally close to the Clintons, is endorsing Barack Obama.

Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts will endorse Senate colleague Barack Obama for president, party officials confirmed Sunday.

The endorsement will be announced Monday in Washington, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for the record. An official close to the senator said the announcement will be made during an Obama campaign rally at American University, where he will be joined by Sen. Kennedy and his niece, Caroline Kennedy, who also has endorsed Obama.  (more…)

Beginning with a joint appearance and rally in Washington on Monday, Mr. Kennedy, a major figure in party politics for more than 40 years, intends to campaign aggressively for Mr. Obama, heading West this week, followed by appearances in the Northeast. Strategists see him bolstering Mr. Obama’s credibility for the office and providing particular benefits with union members and Hispanics, as well as the party base.

Both the Clintons and their allies had pressed Mr. Kennedy for weeks to remain neutral, but Mr. Kennedy had become increasingly disenchanted with the tone of the Clinton campaign. He and former President Bill Clinton had a heated telephone exchange earlier this month over what Mr. Kennedy considered misleading statements by Mr. Clinton about Mr. Obama, as well as his injection of race into the campaign.  (more…)
