Beef – It what's being recalled

Maybe it is just me but there seems to be a ton of recalls going on. Toys. There have been a bunch of toys that have been recalled. Wasn’t there something with food a couple of months ago? Yep, that had to do with lettuce if I’m not mistaken. Now, beef. 21 million pounds of it.

From CNN.com:

Topps Meat Co. on Saturday expanded a recall of ground beef from about 300,000 pounds to 21.7 million pounds, one of the largest meat recalls in U.S. history.

In a statement, the Elizabeth, New Jersey, company said the hamburger patties may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, a bacterium that can cause severe diarrhea and cramps, as well as other complications.

A statement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture said 25 illnesses are under investigation in Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.  (more…)

  1. 25 cases of E. Coli across 8 states. Now how many people live in those 8 states? Beef is being recalled cause of 25 dumb as a rock people did not wash thier hands or they handled raw meat just before handling the cooked meat or they did not cook the meat to the proper temperature. The dumbing of the Untied States continues rolling along.

  2. Sorry UsEyOuRbRaInS- in this case I beg to differ. Granted, American’s are getting pretty dumb, but this has a lot more to do with Industrial Agriculture than American stupidity. The only reason E Coli is even a CONCERN in beef is that cows are being locked in tiny paddocks knee deep in their own excrement, being fed CORN- not a natural food choice.

The corn raises the acid levels in a cows stomach, which in turn has bred incredibly resilient strains of E Coli, which can withstand the high acid levels in human stomachs, thereby making us sick.

We should be calling for a reform of the system, not overcooked hamburgers.
