What did we learn from yesterday’s grilling of Hilliary Clinton?

Hillary Clinton

Every now and then it is really important to understand your role in a situation. At the latest Benghazi hearings Hillary Clinton knew she was in the spotlight. She was on the hotseat. She couldn’t get angry, couldn’t be flip (although I think she had every right to be flip, mad or whatever !) She had to be in control. She was all of that and more.

  • Republicans really had nothing. They were fishing for a soundbite that they could play for the American people that “proved” Hillary Clinton isn’t fit to be Commander-in-Chief. They didn’t get their soundbite.
  • Hillary Clinton was near-perfect yesterday. Her tone was perfect. It was a “I know what I’m talking about” kind of tone. She had to be on an even keel. Yes!
  • Elijah Cummings might be the Democrats’ best choice for vice president. I think that Martin O’Malley is running for president so that he can get the coveted VP spot, but he really isn’t gaining any traction. Cummings, on the other hand, is a solid progressive who has a long track record.
  • I’m still very confused as to why Sidney Blumenthal is an issue. He was never in Benghazi. He was never in Libya. He is not a diplomat. He was never in the State Department. Clinton didn’t get advice  from him on Libya. The whole thing is kind of crazy.

There is no there, there

So, I like charging at windmills as much as the next guy but it can be tiring. Getting your dander up, jumping on the horse and charging can take it out of you sometimes. Wow. Just thinking about it makes me want to sit down and take a rest.

Over the past several months/years, we have been asked to get really, really riled up over – Benghazi. If you listen to some of the talking heads, we need to get out our pitch forks. Hillary needs to be jailed. She handed secret information to the Iranians or Russians or maybe it was someone from Mars. Wait. What has been proven? Nothing. Hillary Clinton has kept State Department emails on her private server which was NOT against the law at the time. (Can you imagine if all of her emails were on a government server? The GOP could have access to them at any time. There would be a steady stream of “guess what Hillary did” on a dialy basis.) This is Whitewash…Whitewater all over again.

Just the other day, I heard Ben Carson talking about how terrible our federal debt is. We needed to do something about this right away… or ….the sky would fall…there would be a nuclear winter…we would be enslaved by China? Something really, really bad would happen. It is crazy. The federal debt has been coming down rather dramatically over the past several years without massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.

Look, we do have problems in this country. We need to seriously address these problems or it is going to be difficult or impossible for us to move forward as a country.

News Roundup – Rangers fail, Kevin McCarthy cannot speak, Watching Failure

It is unclear how it could have been much worse. The Texas Rangers reportedly have one of the best bullpens in major league baseball. They are leading 10-6, at home. It is the top of the ninth inning. The Texas Rangers and their fabulous bullpen give up five runs and end up losing to the Los Angeles Angels, 11-10. It was an epic failure. It is unclear how a team comes back from such a devastating loss.

Kevin McCarthy is running for John Boehner’s old job. He has made several recent television appearances which simply did not go that well. His speaking style is somewhat difficult to understand. I am not sure whether he has dyslexia or has word-finding difficulties or what. He is difficult to understand. I mean, he really cannot speak the English language. This begs the question, how did he get elected to Congress if he cannot communicate effectively? Personally, I find it sad that he cannot communicate. He did manage to mumble and bumble himself into a huge pickle when he stated that the Benghazi Committee was specifically formed in order to hurt Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers.

There was a time when we really did not focus on failure in the United States. We could watch television and look for excellence. The Gong Show was the first show that I remember in which Americans would wait for contestants to fail. That was funny. That was riveting. Now, with reality TV, we look for people to fail all the time. Sure, American Idol can find some absolutely fabulous talent, but at the same time many Americans tune in to those early shows to watch folks crash and burn on national TV. There is this new show on the NFL network called Undrafted. In this show we follow NFL hopefuls. These folks were drafted and, for the most part, their prospects for making the NFL are somewhere between slim and none. I am sorry, but I do not find this compelling TV. I find it sad. On the Golf Channel, we can see the same type of thing. Web.com participants battle low-ranking PGA participants for 50 PGA cards. We can see young and up-and-coming golfers make it on the PGA tour but at the same time we can see somebody like Jhonattan Vegas, a one-time rising star who is battled injuries, struggle and then flame out.
