First let me say that I didn't like Roman numerals in junior high. I'm not sure that I like them now.
How the Giants win: XBox's Madden NFL football is an incredibly complex game. Playing complex defenses like the Patroits, Steelers and Ravens, you can learn a ton about how difficult the game can be. Trying to figure out if the defense is playing man or zone can cause me to scratch my head and I'm playing a game. I know what to look for. I hit the instant replay and watch the safeties and the corners. I know where my keys are and still it can take me a while to figure out exactly what they are playing.
Eli Manning will not have the luxury of my Madden instant replay. He will have 5 - 15 seconds per play to figure out what the New England Patriots are doing. He will need to put his offense in the best position to be successful. He will need to run when he can and throw when he needs to. He can not turn the ball over. His receivers (Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, Kevin Boss and Chris Smith) will have to play very well, almost perfect. No dropped passes. No turnovers. The combination of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw need to combine for around 150 yards. This would mean that the New York Giants are controlling the clock.
The Giants have proved that they can move the ball early in the game. The key will be to score on almost every drive. The first 2 drives will be extremely important. New England will try to get off to a fast start. If the Giants get behind early - stick a fork in them. On the other hand, if the defense can hold through the early nerves that are a part of every Super Bowl then the offense needs to put up some points in a couple of long clock eating drives. Points means touchdowns. Field goals are like lion hunting with a b-b gun. They are worst than worthless. They just upset the lion. Field goals will just upset the Patriots. If you are down there score a touchdown. If you must kick a field goal it better be at the end of the game for the win.
New York Giants have to win the special teams game.
Osi Umenyiora. Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck must dominate the line of scrimmage. If you don't hear their names being called then it will be a long day for the New York Giants. I believe that the New England Patriots will try to mix run and pass like they did in the last 2 games of the playoffs. The Giants linebackers will have to stuff the holes quickly and not give Laurence Maroney anywhere to run. They will also have to cover Kevin Faulk out of the back field. I could be argued that Kevin Faulk is the Patriots most valuable player over the last 3 - 4 weeks. The receivers have been covered down field and Faulk will incredible hands has always been there for Tom Brady. He must be taken away. Welker is the other death by a thousand cuts. He lives in that 5 - 15 yard area. He is fast and has great hands. He runs great routes and knows how to get open. Wes Welker caught more balls than Randy Moss or Donte Stallworth. The New England Patriot offense reminds me of the great San Francisco 49er offenses with Joe Montana or Steve Young. They have tons of weapons. They will not shoot themselves in the foot. You have to take it from them. The Giant secondary will need to take a page out of the New England play book. Whenever New England plays the Colts, the Patriots will try to beat up and intimidate the Colts. The Giants are going to have to do the same thing. The Giants' secondary will have to punish receivers that come in their area and those who catch passes.
The New England Patriots will not beat themselves. You have to take it to them. If the Giants can get the lead early and keep the Patriots from scoring more than 24 points, the Giants will win. If the game becomes a track meet, the game is over. The Giants DO have a chance to win this game. They have been playing flawless football. If they continue this trend they will win and a Super Bowl trophy to show for their efforts (and the Miami Dolphins will be eternally grateful).
