There are very few singers who had the talent of Whitney Houston. She had it all. She had the looks, that angelic face. She had the body and she had the voice. Her voice had power and an amazing range. Whitney Houston's voice could be extremely soulful like Anita Baker or light and playful like Phoebe Snow. It could be overwhelming and powerful like Aretha Franklin. At her funeral, I'm sure there are going to be several people who will talk about her potential. Not just her potential to sell records, but her potential to sing almost any song. She could sing jazz. She could sing pop. She could sing soul or gospel... and everything in between.
I'm not going to speculate on how this 48-year-old has died. Instead, I'm going to celebrate what she's going to leave all of us, her music.
Hands-down, the best version of the Star-Spangled Banner that I've ever heard.
I Wanna Dance with Somebody
This is my favorite Whitney tune, Queen of the Night
This is one of her softer tunes without being sappy. Saving All My Love for You.
How Will I Know (Acappella)
Update: Whitney was found in the bathtub under water. Pills were found in the room, but they were all prescription drugs.
