So what happened in LA? An immigration rally turns sour.

From LAT:

Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton said today that some actions taken by officers trying to clear a crowd of marchers at MacArthur Park were "inappropriate" and that he has launched two investigations.

The chief told KNX-AM (1070) that he reviewed the videotapes showing officers using batons and rubber bullets to disperse crowds -- including TV news reporters -- and said "quite frankly, I was disturbed at what I saw." (more...)

Brian - Thanks for your comments. I'm not sure that there should be a situation in which a "peaceful" demonstration ends in the police tear gassing the place. Unless the media was breaking the law in someway the police should have shown more restraint. I'm not saying that the media is perfect because they are far from it. I'm saying the media was covering a simple rally and it appears that the police jumped the gun. Thanks again.

KNX in Los Angeles seemed to be the only station that covered as it was happening and from what I've read or heard, the only one whose reporters didn't try to "become the story". They didn't get beat up, trampled, sprayed with rubber projectiles, etc. Maybe some of the media who are laying blame should question their methods.
