Our Constitution and some basic guarantees

Constitution It seems to me that our Constitution guarantees some basic rights for all Americans. (Now we can, of course, argue about whether Faisal Shahzad should have been allowed to become an American citizen.) These rights are not open for negotiations. Yet, we have some who have argued that alleged failed Times Square bomber, Faisal Shahzad, shouldn't have been afforded these rights. Why not? Doesn't our Constitution work in good times and bad? If there is some reason that the Constitution doesn't work, then we need to amend it. I think that this is really pretty simple, but it seems that folks don't get it.

Apparently Nancy Pelosi thinks the Constitution guarantees quite a few unusual 'rights', like the right to quit your job and play music and be guaranteed government paid health care.“We see it as an entrepreneurial bill,” Pelosi said, “a bill that says to someone, if you want to be creative and be a musician or whatever, you can leave your work, focus on your talent, your skill, your passion, your aspirations because you will have health care.” http://cnsnews.com/news/article/65950

Amazingly, even Glenn Beck said we shouldn't shred the Constitution in this case. I was gobsmacked. On the other hand, now there are calls for anyone accused of terrorism to be stripped of U.S. citizenship. Talk about your slippery slopes.
