Ayn Rand Took Social Security

Does it surprise you at all that the novelist Ayn Rand accepted Social Security benefits?

(Above--Ayn Rand looking on as Franklin Roosevelt signs the Social Security Act in 1935. Ms. Rand is glad about what she is seeing because she is going to take the money.)

Ms. Rand talked about rugged individualism in her novels, but she took the government money when it suited her purposes.

Ms. Rand fits in well with today's fiscal chicken hawks.

Have you seen any Republican/Tea Party voters refuse government benefits? Have you seen Republican voting government employees volunteer to give up their job so budgets can be balanced? Have you seen any Tea Party backers organizing volunteer parties to build roads and maintain public parks so the role of government can be scaled back?

We've not seen any sacrifice at all. What we've seen is an attack on children, the sick, the poor, and anybody else who reminds bullying people of human frailty.

What a bunch of lies from the right.

Today I read an article that congress' budget would not be cut. Where are the R / Tea partier's calling for "scaling back" of government and taking pay cuts???

What we’ve seen is an attack on children, the sick, the poor, and anybody else who reminds bullying people of human frailty. What a powerful statement, ET, and so true!

Rand is more a libertarian than a conservative. She wanted to be Nietzsche 2.0 (her idol) but is a poor thinker despite some interesting ideas. Its strange to hear so many various blogospheres that claim to be conservative take her up since she didn't belong to them, and especially when they are of the religious sort when she hated religion (Nietzsche at least respected it, and his writings are very spiritual, almost like battle hymnals). The sad thing is our public education system is getting so poor that people never get a chance in that schooling to read better thinkers, writers and so they stumble upon her and her ilk by accident and are taken by it, without realizing how limited it is as well as where she and her mentor are coming from at all. I only found H.P. Lovecraft (one of my favorite writers) because I listened to Metallica songs and some are about his stories. I only heard about Aristotle as some fool Galileo proved wrong, I might never have read Plato at all if I hadn't come here to USU. Its also no help that Glenn Beck is pimping her stuff and other things with no context or proper understanding to an audience that lacks ability to handle either of those things. There is much better conservative media out there but bells and whistles win the day in democracies.

Rand was one of the biggest hypocritical quacks in the last hundred years. The fact that someone publisher books is a travesty.
